Kashmiris enduring unrelenting brutalities under Indian occupation

Islamabad: The people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir continue to endure relentless brutality under Indian occupation as the territory faces intensified human rights abuses.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the ongoing oppression by Indian forces has plunged IIOJK deeper into despair, with Kashmiris subjected to violence, arbitrary arrests, and torture.

Since the revocation of Kashmir’s special status by India on August 5, 2019, the territory has descended into a state of complete darkness. Once a thriving land of culture, IIOJK is now the world’s most militarized region, transformed into an open-air prison where daily life is defined by bloodshed and fear. The occupying forces continue to violate every aspect of Kashmiris’ basic rights.

According to a report by Kashmir Media Service, 96,408 Kashmiris have been martyred since 1989 by Indian forces. The toll continues to mount, with 11 Kashmiris killed and 37 others detained by Indian troops in January 2025 alone. The people of Kashmir live in constant fear as Indian forces impose violence and repression across the territory.

India’s occupation regime, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has unleashed unparalleled cruelty upon Kashmiris. The use of draconian laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) is being employed to silence political dissent and strip Kashmiris of their political freedoms. This has led to a systematic breakdown of basic human rights in IIOJK.

The international community’s silence in the face of India’s relentless atrocities has only emboldened the Indian government to further its violent campaign in IIOJK. The ongoing human rights violations are directly linked to the unresolved Kashmir dispute, which remains a source of conflict in South Asia.

Despite the immense suffering, the spirit of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken. Their struggle for justice and self-determination continues, undeterred by Indian oppression. Kashmiris are determined to seek accountability for the crimes committed by Indian forces in IIOJK.
