Srinagar: Chief Minister of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has expressed concern over the recent killings in Kathua and Baramulla.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on microblogging platform X said, “I have seen the reports of excessive use of force and harassment of Makhan Din in police custody in Billawar leading to his suicide and the death of Waseem Ahmed Malla, shot by the army.
He said Jammu and Kashmir will never be completely normalised and free of terror without the cooperation of the local population. “Incidents like these risk alienating the very people who we need to carry with us on the road to complete normalcy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from Srinagar Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi in a post on X said that two civilians in occupied Jammu and Kashmir were killed by armed forces just a day after a security review meeting and called for immediate action and justice.
He said, “As per reports, one was killed by torture in custody and the other on the road by firing bullets in his chest. I asked for time in Parliament today to raise the issue, but I was not given the time for it.”
Senior National Conference leader Ajay Sadhotra addressing a workers’ meeting in Kathua also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Jammu, saying that criminal elements have become emboldened, carrying out shootouts and burglaries in broad daylight.
“Such brazen acts of crime have sent shockwaves among the people, especially housewives, elderly citizens, and children, making them feel unsafe even within their own homes”, Sadhotra lamented.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani talking to media persons in Srinagar condemned the killings of civilians and said the LG’s administration should be made answerable for these killings.
“You all know that when there is any security review meeting or security-related matters, the elected government is not taken into confidence. When there was a meeting in Delhi, the chief minister was not invited,” Wani said.
“This is one of the main reasons why we say that the Government of India should restore statehood which will lead to a uniform action on all these things,” he said. The elected government is answerable only if the situation would have been in its control, he maintained.
