Indian police seize property of another Kashmiri in IIOJK

Srinagar: In a continued effort to deprive Kashmiris of their legitimate assets, Indian police have seized a residential house of a Kashmiri civilian in Kulgam district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the property, owned by Safdar Ali Dar and located in Modergam village of the district, was confiscated under the draconian under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on the pretext of allegedly providing shelter to pro-freedom activists.

The house had previously been damaged during a violent cordon and search operation by Indian forces on 6 July 2024, in which two Kashmiri youths, Adil Hussain and Faisal Bashir, were martyred.

Acting under orders from New Delhi-appointed IIOJK Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, the police arrived at the site today and formally seized the house. A signboard was installed at the site, which reads: “This is to inform the general public that the fully damaged residential house registered in the name of Safdar Ali Dar of Modergam, Kulgam, has been frozen or seized under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.” The notice further warns that no one is permitted to purchase the property, while the owner is prohibited from selling or leasing it.

The latest action is part of a broader pattern by Indian authorities to target and intimidate the people of IIOJK, aiming at coercing them into abandoning their UN-recognized right to self-determination. Since the revocation of IIOJK’s special status in August 2019, the Modi regime has escalated its campaign of property seizures, systematically dispossessing Kashmiris and their organizations in a bid to subdue freedom struggle and alter the territory’s demographic landscape.
