DFP slams Indian police crackdown on Islamic literature across IIOJK
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has denounced the ongoing crackdown by Indian police on Islamic literature and religious texts across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, terming it a “direct assault on religious freedom.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar today, DFP spokesman advocate Arshad Iqbal said that the move was a reflection of Hindutva mindset hell-bent on erasing the Muslim identity, history and culture.
He, however, made it clear that such a shameful move would fail to guard Kashmiris thoughts, detach and disconnect them from their roots.
Meanwhile, the DFP spokesman condemned the termination of Kashmiri employees from their jobs and termed it as an attempt to strangulate Kashmiris economically.
Expressing the DFP’s concern over the deteriorating political, human and religious rights in the occupied territory, Iqbal cited the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s recent interview to tell all about the abysmal state of religious freedom in Kashmir.
The DFP spokesman said that the following the Indian government’s controversial decision to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A in 2019, the fundamental freedoms including the religious freedoms have been almost usurped.
