18 years on, Samjhauta Express attack victim families await justice

Islamabad: On the 18th anniversary of the Samjhauta Express bombing, victim families, mostly Muslims from Pakistan, have deplored that the Indian government continues to deny justice despite the undeniable evidence about involvement of Hindutva outfits in the carnage.

According to Kashmir Media Service, on February 18, 2007, 68 innocent passengers, including over 40 Pakistani nationals, were killed in a terrorist attack on the Lahore-bound Samjhauta Express train on Indian soil.

The bombs were planted by the goons of BJP, RSS, Bajrang Dal and VHP in connivance with Indian secret agencies to malign Pakistan.

Despite the passage of 18 years, the Indian government has failed to provide justice to the victim families. The acquittal of those involved in the blasts speaks volume about how Hindu extremists enjoy impunity under the BJP-led Hindutva regime. Also the court decision reflects the Indian state’s policy of shielding Hindu terrorists.

The acquittal of four Hindu extremists by an Indian court despite substantial evidence of their involvement is deplorable.

The acquittals underscore the BJP government’s patronage of Hindutva communal forces and its role in promoting terrorism in the region.

The Samjhauta Express bombing is widely seen as a false flag operation aimed at defaming Pakistan.
