Save Hinduism from Hindutva: Arun Shourie demands in his new book

New Delhi: Senior Indian journalist and former Indian Minister Arun Shourie has made important revelations in his new book, “The New Icon Savarkar and the Fact”, severely criticizing the life and ideology of Damodar Savarkar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Savarkar is being presented as a nationalist hero by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The book has sparked a political debate in which Shourie said the BJP is trying to suppress the legacy of Gandhi and promote Savarkar’s divisive extremist views.

Arun Shourie was a minister in the BJP’s NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In his book, he has exposed the assumptions spread about Savarkar’s role in India’s freedom struggle using Savarkar’s writings, British archives and contemporary records.

He has revealed startling facts about Savarkar’s mercy pleas to the British government, his advocacy of violence and his controversial stance on Muslims and Christians in India. He argues that Savarkar’s Hindu Rashtra ideology, if implemented, would turn India into a deceitful and deceitful saffron state.

Arun Shourie told the BBC that Savarkar’s ideas are being used today like never before. This government is using them to erase Gandhi. He said on the last page, he has presented his argument to save Hinduism from Hindutva. Several so-called historical events associated with Savarkar have been proven false and baseless in Shourie’s book.

The book also talks about Savarkar’s involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate Gandhi. Shourie writes that a government witness in the Gandhi assassination case testified that Godse and Apte had sought Savarkar’s blessings before carrying out the assassination.

The most surprising revelation in the book is about Savarkar’s plea for mercy before the British government in which he promised loyalty to the colonial rulers.

Apart from this, Shourie also criticized Savarkar’s ideology against Muslims and Christians and called him an assistant in the British conspiracy to divide India. He said that Savarkar’s ideology would weaken the secular structure of India.
