Jammu: The Congress occupied Jammu and Kashmir chapter President, Tariq Hameed Karra, accompanied by senior party leaders, visited the residence of the youth killed in a fake encounter by Indian police firing in the in the Satwari area of Jammu district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Congress leaders expressed deep shock and grief over the killing and demanded a judicial probe into the extrajudicial killing. Among others, the delegation included Working President Raman Bhalla, AICC Secretary Shah Nawaz Choudhary, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma and former legislators Ved Mahajan and Balbir Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Karra said that the police’s own admission of the youth’s innocence warrants immediate registration of an FIR and arrest of the personnel involved. “No amount of compensation can ease the pain of the bereaved family. The only way forward is a time-bound judicial inquiry and strict punishment to those responsible,” he added.

Raman Bhalla condemned what he termed a “reckless and unlawful” act by the police, while Shah Nawaz said such incidents were unacceptable in a democratic society and demanded accountability.

The Congress leaders expressed solidarity with the grieving family, assuring them that their demand for justice will be taken to the highest forums.

It is worth mentioning here that Indian police martyred the 21-year-old Kashmiri youth identified as Pervez Ahmad in a fake encounter in the Satwari area of Jammu district. The youth, was shot dead during a so-called search operation in Sure Chak on the outskirts of Jammu. His body was later shifted to Government Medical College Hospital.

In a bid to cover up the brutal killing, occupation authorities claimed that Pervez was caught in crossfire during a chase of suspected persons. The family members and civil society activists staged a protest outside the hospital, rejecting the police version and calling it a cold-blooded extrajudicial killing. Civil society activist, Talib Hussain, present at the protest, told media men that Pervez was travelling with a friend on a motorcycle when he was intercepted and killed without provocation.
