Indian Army officer brutally assaults SpiceJet employees at Srinagar airport

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian Army officer brutally assaulted SpiceJet employees at Srinagar airport over an issue of excess baggage and two employees of the Indian airline were seriously injured due to the violence.

According to Kashmir Media Service, SpiceJet airline in a statement said an army officer assaulted four employees at the boarding gate of Srinagar airport , resulting in two employees being seriously injured.

The incident occurred during the boarding process of flight SG-386 from Srinagar to Delhi. The airline added that the altercation began when the army officer, who was carrying 16 kg cabin baggage, which is double the 7 kg limit, was asked to pay the applicable charges. The army officer refused to pay the additional charges and entered the aerobridge without completing the mandatory boarding check. When a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official tried to stop him, he turned violent and punched and kicked four crew members. The severe attack left two employees unconscious and bleeding from their nose and mouth. The injured employees were later shifted to a hospital.

The airline said that an FIR has been registered at the local police station in connection with the incident. SpiceJet has initiated action to have the army officer included in the civil aviation “no-fly” list. The airline has also written to the civil aviation ministry, seeking appropriate action.

The CCTV footage of the incident at the airport has been obtained and submitted to the authorities.

“SpiceJet strongly condemns the violence against its employees and will pursue this matter to its fullest legal end,” the company spokesperson in a statement said.

The Indian Army has not yet responded to the incident.
