Speakers in Peshawar pay tribute to Kashmir martyrs, political prisoners

Peshawar: Speakers at a solemn event in Peshawar paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and to the Kashmiri political prisoners enduring harsh conditions in various Indian prisons.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was held at the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal. It was jointly organized by the Kashmiri Students’ Community and the Youth Development Centre. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Dr. Jehan Bakht, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Prominent Hurriyat leaders Dawood Khan Yousafzai and Zahid Ashraf also participated and addressed the students and faculty.
The speakers highlighted that despite brutal repression, arbitrary detentions, and ongoing human rights violations, India has failed to crush the will and determination of the Kashmiri people. They reaffirmed that the people of IIOJK remain resolute in their struggle for the UN-guaranteed right to self-determination and continue to resist Indian occupation with unmatched courage and perseverance.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Dr. Jehan Bakht lauded the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people and reiterated the university’s unwavering support for Kashmiri students, both academically and morally.
The Hurriyat leaders urged students to remain committed not only to their studies but also to the Kashmir cause. “The future of the Kashmir freedom movement rests in the hands of the youth,” they said. “Wherever you study, you are ambassadors of Kashmir. It is your duty to safeguard that identity and uphold your responsibilities.”
Dr. Muqaddas, representing the Kashmiri student community, shared the objectives of the event and provided a detailed account of the constitutional changes made by India on August 5, 2019, particularly the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.
Director of the Youth Development Centre, Professor Dr. Anwar Ali Shad, extended gratitude to the guests and attendees and acknowledged the dedication and enthusiasm of the youth for the cause of Kashmir.
The event concluded with an awareness walk on campus, as students, teachers, and guests joined together in a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir.
