Kashmir issue cannot be resolved through oppression, arrests, and Political Restrictions: Agha Hassan

Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader and President of Anjuman Sharie Shian, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safavi, strongly condemned India’s unilateral and unconstitutional actions of August 5, 2019, stating that the Kashmir issue cannot be resolved through repression, mass arrests, or political restrictions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal, Agha Hassan reiterated his organisation’s longstanding opposition to the Indian government’s unilateral, undemocratic, and unconstitutional decisions of August 5, 2019. He said these measures not only undermined the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir but also deprived its people of their political, social, and economic rights.

He stressed that the use of force, detentions, and bans on political activities have failed to resolve the issue and, instead, have added further complexity to the ground situation. “History has shown that such coercive tactics only worsen matters rather than bring peace or normalcy,” he said.

Agha Hassan maintained that dialogue, reconciliation, and restoration of mutual trust are the only viable paths to resolving the Kashmir dispute. He urged the Indian government to release all political prisoners detained in Tihar and other jails, withdraw FIRs against thousands of Kashmiri youth, and initiate inclusive measures for reconciliation and engagement with the younger generation.

He added that sustainable peace and development in the region are only possible if all stakeholders approach the issue with realism, justice, and a genuine commitment to dialogue.
