Speakers reaffirm support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination

Islamabad: Speakers at a conference in Islamabad reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), declaring that the country stands shoulder to shoulder with Kashmiris in their struggle for right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar was organized by Friends of Kashmir International at Kashmir House in Islamabad and chaired by Chairperson Ms Gazala Habib. Chairman of Kashmir Committee Rana Qasim Noon was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prominent speakers included Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, General Secretary of the World Muslim Congress, former AJK President Sardar Masood Khan, senior journalist Nasim Zehra; APHC-AJK senior leader Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, human rights defender Aftab Sulehri and former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Siraj-ul-Haq. The session was moderated by Abdul Hameed Lone.

The speakers strongly condemned India’s illegal and unilateral move of August 5, 2019, when Articles 370 and 35-A were revoked and Jammu and Kashmir was deprived of its special status. They described the action as a deliberate attempt to erase Kashmiris’ identity and deprive its people of land, rights and dignity.

They said India has transformed IIOJK into an open-air prison where thousands of innocent people have been martyred, detained, and subjected to inhuman treatment.

The speakers reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to continue highlighting the Kashmir dispute at all international forums until the Kashmiri people are granted their UN-mandated right to self-determination.

They emphasized that Pakistan had always stood firm on the Kashmir dispute and would never abandon its moral, political, and diplomatic support for the oppressed people of IIOJK.

They called upon the international community to break its silence and hold India accountable for the grave human rights violations being committed in the occupied territory.

They also stressed the need for unity among all political parties, civil society, and the media in Pakistan to keep the Kashmir cause alive and ensure that the voice of Kashmiris continues to echo across the globe.
