Indian police search bookstores in Poonch
Jammu: Indian police carried out searches at bookshops across Poonch district to seize 25 books banned by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, police officials said that during extensive searches at multiple locations across the district, no such books were found at any of the premises visited. “Bookshop owners were sensitised about the directive and cautioned to ensure that such prohibited material is neither stocked nor sold in any form,” they added.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had last week banned the publication of 25 books for allegedly “promoting false narratives and glorifying terrorism.”
Officials said the searches are being conducted to ensure that no banned material remains in circulation or reaches the public domain. The authorities last week announced the forfeiture of 25 books by authors including Arundhati Roy, Piotr Balcerowicz, Hafsa Kanjwal, Christopher Snedden, Mohammad Yosuf Saraf and Essar Batool.
