Srinagar residents protest, warn of intensified agitation over water crisis

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the residents of Batamaloo in Srinagar have denounced the criminal apathy of authorities towards their worsening water crisis, saying they have been left without proper supply for the past two months despite repeated pleas.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesting residents said despite repeated complaints to the Public Health Engineering Department, no concrete steps have been taken to redress the issue. The crisis has forced families, including children and the elderly, to walk long distances with buckets and containers to fetch water from other localities.

Men, women and children took to the streets, blocked the main road and raised slogans against the authorities for failing to ensure a basic necessity of life. “We cannot continue like this. If nothing is done, we will intensify our protest,” a protester warned.

Women residents said they are bearing the brunt of the shortage, queuing for hours to fetch a few buckets. Several households complained of being compelled to spend large sums daily to buy drinking water.
