Police refusal to act against Waqf chief exposes BJP’s hand in Hazratbal row

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Indian police of shielding Waqf Board Chairperson and BJP leader Darakhshan Andrabi in the blasphemous installation of the Ashoka emblem at the revered Hazratbal shrine.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in a statement in Srinagar said “After being denied to file an FIR against Chairperson Waqf Board in Nigheen Police Station, the party will now approach Hazratbal Police Station. I urge police to initiate an FIR immediately given the gravity of the offence – deliberately hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims thereby provoking them”.

The police have not issued any official statement in response to Mehbooba’s statement.

The refusal to register an FIR against Andrabi proves the nexus between the BJP regime and its political appointees, besides being a deliberate attempt to hurt Muslim sentiments in the territory.

The controversy erupted after worshippers noticed the Ashoka emblem installed at Hazratbal by the Waqf Board and removed it in protest. Political and religious leaders across the occupied territory strongly condemned the act and demanded Andrabi’s apology.

Meanwhile, over 50 devotees have been arrested under draconian laws, while no action has been taken against the Waqf chief. Opposition leaders, including the NC, said police bias has laid bare that the BJP regime is hand in glove with its appointees while silencing Kashmiri voices.
