Karra says highway blockades expose conspiracy to cripple Valley’s backbone

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Congress President, Tariq Hameed Karra, has expressed grave concern over repeated closures of the Srinagar–Jammu highway during the peak apple harvest season, warning that the disruption was crippling Kashmir’s economy and raising suspicions of “economic sabotage” against the horticulture sector.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a party convention in Uri, Baramulla district, Karra said the highway shutdowns that coincide with peak fruit transport suggest a deliberate design to weaken the Valley’s backbone industry. “People doubt that whenever the fruit season is at its peak, road challenges occur. We should investigate whether there is a conspiracy to crush the economy of Jammu and Kashmir, be it horticulture, agriculture or other sectors,” he said.

The Congress leader reiterated his party’s demand for the immediate restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, terming its abrogation “unconstitutional.” He maintained that Congress had deliberately stayed away from government formation despite extending issue-based support to the new administration. “We had promised statehood in our manifesto and until the rights of the people are restored, we will not be part of the government,” he added.

Karra further said the Congress would continue to highlight governance failures while extending outside support, vowing not to compromise on the rights of the people. “Under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, Congress will raise its voice on every front where people’s economy or rights are being obstructed,” he stressed.
