Indian Ministry banned activist Wangchuk’s NGO for raising voice for political rights

Leh: The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has banned a Non-Governmental Organisation, Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), owned by activist Sonam Wangchuk because he is struggling for political rights, including Statehood and extension of the Sixth Schedule to protect Ladakh’s tribal status of the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the action comes after massive protests of people for their political rights on Wednesday in the Leh city of Ladakh region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday cancelled the FCRA licence of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s NGO, a day after at least four civilians died and over dozens were injured by Indian forces’ firing and teargas shells in the Leh city.
Wangchuk had been on a hunger strike, seeking Statehood for Ladakh for more than a month. He called off his fast on Wednesday after the massive protests broke out.
The order of the Indian Home Ministry said that the organisation was served a show cause notice on August 20, followed by a letter dated September 10, asking why its FCRA registration certificate should not be cancelled.
The Wangchuk’s NGO is providing help and support to the students and other social fields of the people of Ladakh.
The Home Ministry in a statement blamed Sonam Wangchuk of provoking the mob by his speeches for their rights during his hunger strike speech.
