Muzaffarabad seminar calls for UN-backed settlement of Kashmir dispute

Muzaffarabad: Speakers at a seminar held in Muzaffarabad, the capital of AJK, unanimously reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized dispute, whose just resolution lies only in the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, the seminar titled “India’s Occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and the Kashmiris’ Right to Resistance” was organized by the Kashmir Policy Research Institute (KPRI). The event brought together prominent Kashmiri leaders, scholars, academics, students, and representatives from diverse sections of society.
The seminar was addressed by Ghulam Mohammad Safi, Convener of the APHC-AJK chapter; Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of the KIIR, and Dr. Raja Mohammad Sajad Khan, Director of KPRI. Senior Hurriyat leaders Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Zahid Safi were also present on the occasion.
Ghulam Mohammad Safi said that the Kashmiri people have been waging a peaceful struggle for their UN-acknowledged right to self-determination for decades and will never compromise on their principled position. He stressed that India’s attempts to alter the demographic composition of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) are in gross violation of international law and UN resolutions, adding that such moves cannot change the disputed status of the territory.
Altaf Hussain Wani warned that India’s unlawful actions in IIOJK pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability, urging the international community to shoulder its responsibility by ensuring a peaceful and lasting settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Dr. Raja Mohammad Sajad Khan said that India’s unilateral abrogation of IIOJK’s special status on August 5, 2019, not only violated UN resolutions but also breached India’s own constitution and commitments to the Kashmiri people. He underscored the need for academic and policy research focusing on the historical, legal, and humanitarian aspects of the Kashmir dispute to build a stronger and well-informed global narrative.
The speakers called upon international organizations, human rights bodies, and global media to take serious notice of the ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK and to amplify the voices of the oppressed Kashmiri people.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants expressed complete solidarity with the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, pledging to continue supporting their legitimate struggle for freedom in accordance with UN resolutions and universal principles of justice and self-determination.
