Congress rules out joining IIOJK cabinet until statehood restoration

Srinagar: In a significant political development, the Congress party in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has declared it will not join the territory’s cabinet until full statehood is restored.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress IIOJK president Tariq Hamid Karra in a statement in Srinagar reiterated the party’s “principled stand,” stating, “We have a principled stand that as long as Jammu and Kashmir doesn’t get statehood, we will not be part of the cabinet.”

The announcement comes amid indications of a potential cabinet expansion by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had previously stated he was actively considering inducting more ministers after the conclusion of by-elections.

Karra condemned the delay in restoring statehood, framing the Congress’s “Ghar-Ghar Dastak” (Knock on Every Door) movement as a fight to bring back the “lost dignity and honour” to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the movement is not merely a slogan but a strong reiteration of the party’s commitment to taking the statehood fight to its logical conclusion.
