Indian police launch massive crackdown, target Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai’s home in Budgam
Srinagar: Indian police launched a large-scale crackdown in multiple areas of Badgam district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the ancestral residence of US-based Kashmiri leader, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian officials claimed that the operation, conducted today, was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle what they called “pro-freedom network of Dr. Fai” allegedly linked to banned Hurriyet organisations. During the raids, several civilians were detained and taken to police stations for interrogation.
Ghulam Nabi Fai, a native of Wadwan village in Budgam, has been declared a proclaimed offender by Indian police under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The occupation authorities have also initiated proceedings to confiscate his ancestral property.
Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai is a prominent Kashmiri leader and head of the Washington-based Kashmiri American Council. He has long been advocating for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiris, as guaranteed by the United Nations.
