PDP women wing protests soaring electricity bills in Srinagar

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party Women Wing staged a protest outside the party headquarters in Srinagar on Monday, decrying the steep rise in electricity tariffs that has plunged local households into financial distress.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstrators said that bills generated through smart meters have become increasingly unaffordable, creating undue hardship for ordinary citizens. The protesters said the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government is failing to deliver on its election promise of providing free electricity and of ignoring public grievances over unfair billing practices.
PDP women activists raised slogans demanding immediate relief for consumers and urged the administration to take urgent measures to ease the burden on residents, instead of worsening their hardships. They described the rising electricity costs as a reflection of mismanagement and failure to prioritize the needs of the people in the occupied territory.
PDP leaders warned that unless corrective action is taken, the situation could lead to further public unrest and mounting dissatisfaction with the administration.
