Forest fire in IIOJK’s Gurez vally has not yet been brought under control

Srinagar: A massive forest fire in Bagalur area near the Line of Control in the Gurez valley of Bandipora district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has not yet been brought under control and the fire continued for the fourth consecutive day, today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a large part of the forest land destroyed and a large number of trees were damaged due to the fire.

Officials said joint teams of the Forest Department, Wildlife Department and local volunteers are continuously working to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.

They said the fire broke out in compartment 32 of the forest, which is a remote and mountainous place near the Line of Control. Dry grass fueled the fire, due to which it spread rapidly.

Forest Officer Javed Iqbal said due to no road connectivity, fire tenders could not reach the area and our teams were relying entirely on manual methods to control the fire.

He said despite the difficult conditions, officials of all departments were continuing operations with full determination to completely control the fire.

Javed Iqbal added that the real cause of the fire was yet to be known.
