Four Bomb Squad cops killed in Madhya Pradesh, lapses raise safety concerns

New Delhi: Four members of Madhya Pradesh Police’s Bomb Disposal Squad were killed when a speeding container truck, apparently in a deliberate act, rammed their vehicle on National Highway 44 in Sagar district, leaving one constable critically injured. The team was returning from an anti-Naxal operation at the time.

According to reports, the collision occurred in the early hours near Bandri-Malthone. The vehicle was crushed beyond recognition, leaving little chance of survival. The deceased have been identified as Constable Pradhuman Dixit, Constable Aman Kaurav, driver Paramlal Tomar, and dog master Vinod Sharma. The sole survivor, Constable Rajiv Chauhan, was rushed to Bansal Hospital in Bhopal in critical condition.

The incident has sparked concerns over professional lapses and safety protocols, coming just months after a police station blast in Srinagar killed multiple officers and civilians. Observers note that repeated failures in risk management during high-stakes operations, including bomb disposal duty, continue to endanger lives unnecessarily.

A case has been registered against the fleeing truck driver, and a massive hunt is underway. State authorities, while mourning the loss of the policemen, have promised a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
