Grandmother of jailed resistance member passes away in IIOJK

Srinagar: The grandmother of illegally detained Hurriyat member Asif Gul passed away, today, in the old town area of Baramulla district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, reports said that she had been suffering from poor mental health due to her grandson’s prolonged detention in Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu. She was reportedly never allowed to meet him during his imprisonment.

Asif Gul has been under illegal detention since 2020 under several draconian laws, including the Public Safety Act (PSA). Authorities did not grant him bail to attend his grandmother’s funeral.

Asif Gul is among the jailed members of the resistance camp and is known as an uncompromising campaigner against Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

These events underscore long-standing concerns raised by the Hurriyat camp and human rights organizations regarding the emotional and psychological impact of detentions on Kashmiri prisoners and the denial of basic humanitarian considerations, even during family tragedies.
