Hindutva activists vandalize decades-old Muslim shrine in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In a disturbing incident, Hindutva activists led by an office bearer of a Hindu extremist group vandalized a decades-old Muslim shrine in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place in Mawai village, under the Hussaingang police station, where a group of Bajrang Dal workers headed by Narendra Hindu—the Bhitaura block convenor of the organisation—used hammers and sticks to damage the shrine’s structure.

A video of the attack, which later surfaced on social media, showed the Hindutva activists vandalizing the shrine while issuing warnings and making references to Bangladesh. In the video, Narendra Hindu was heard saying that people living in India must show allegiance to the Indian Constitution, the national anthem and Vande Mataram, and claimed that similar actions would continue against what he described as a “jihadi mindset”.

Police said the video was subsequently deleted from the social media account from which it was uploaded. The footage sparked outrage within the local Muslim community, heightening tensions in the village. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday evening, has sparked communal tensions in the village, prompting authorities to deploy additional police personnel in the area.

Hussainganj station in-charge Alok Kumar Pandey said a heavy police force was deployed in the area soon after information about the incident was received to prevent any escalation. He added that Narendra Hindu been taken into custody for questioning.

The situation in the area remains tense but under control, police added.
