Restrictions tightened on Amit Shah’s Kashmir visit

Srinagar: Indian forces have intensified restrictions and launched search operations in Srinagar on the visit of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian forces carried out a surprise cordon and search operation in the Abi Guzar area of Srinagar as Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the Kashmir Valley, today. The operation triggered fear and uncertainty among local residents.

Officials said the forces sealed all entry and exit points leading to the Abi Guzar locality, which comprises several residential and commercial establishments, including shops. During the operation, searches of multiple premises were conducted and passersby were subjected to frisking and identity checks.

The operation comes as Amit Shah is scheduled to visit occupied Jammu and Kashmir for three days beginning Thursday. Such restrictions and search operations ahead of visits by senior Indian officials have become routine in the occupied territory and are widely viewed as measures to create an atmosphere of intimidation and control among the Kashmiri population.
