Hurriyat leaders pay tributes to Shaheed Maqbool Butt, Shaheed Afzal Guru

Islamabad: A prayer gathering was held at the central office of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC-AJK) in Islamabad to pay rich tributes to Shaheed-e-Millat Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Shaheed-e-Kashmir Muhammad Afzal Guru.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was presided over by APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and was attended by senior Hurriyat leaders, activists and workers. The participants paid glowing tributes to Shaheed Maqbool Butt, Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru and all martyrs of Kashmir, describing their sacrifices as the foundation, driving spirit and guarantor of the Jammu and Kashmir freedom struggle.

Addressing the gathering, speakers said that Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru were iconic and unforgettable leaders of the Kashmiri freedom movement who, through their supreme sacrifices, gave permanence, resilience and ideological clarity to the struggle. They said both leaders were hanged by Indian courts in haste and bias without proving any crime, in blatant violation of universally accepted principles of justice, which remains a black stain on India’s so-called democratic and judicial system.

In his address, APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi said that the continued vitality and momentum of the Kashmir freedom movement is the direct result of the sacred blood of Kashmiri martyrs. He said these great sacrifices have exposed India’s oppressive mindset and proved that despite resorting to all forms of repression, New Delhi has failed to break the unyielding resolve of the Kashmiri people.

APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Parvez Ahmad Shah, while thanking the people of Pakistan for their wholehearted solidarity on Kashmir Solidarity Day, said that their moral, political and diplomatic support is a great source of courage and strength for the Kashmiri people.

The participants also strongly condemned the tragic terrorist incident in Tralai, Islamabad, terming terrorism a grave crime against humanity with no religion or justification. They expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Former APHC-AJK Convener Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, senior Hurriyat leader Madam Shamim Shawl, Director Liberation Cell Raja Afsar Khan and Najib Ghafoor also addressed the gathering. They reaffirmed the resolve that the Kashmiri people will continue the mission of the martyrs at all costs.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmed Buttt in a statement also paid tribute to Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru, stating that their execution was a politically motivated act.
