Safi apprises OPF delegation of current serious situation in IIOJK

Muzaffarabad: Chairman of Overseas Pakistan Foundation Syed Qamar Raza along with his delegation visited the office of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Muzaffarabad where he held an important and detailed meeting with Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and other leaders.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC-AJK chapter leadership warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, including the latest situation of the Kashmir dispute.

Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi apprised the delegation of the current serious and worrisome situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and said systematic and serious human rights violations are going on there.

He said curbs on civil liberties, arrests of political leaders and youth, restrictions on expression of opinion, pressure on the media, attempts to change the population ratio and controversial measures related to land and property are creating serious threats to the identity, property rights and fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.

He said in this environment of suppression and oppression, the Kashmiri people are making unprecedented sacrifices to achieve their fundamental right to self-determination.

He stressed that the Kashmir was not just a territorial or political dispute but a fundamental right to self-determination and human dignity of millions of people, which should be resolved justly in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and international norms. He said lasting peace and stability in South Asia is not possible until the Kashmiri people are provided with their legitimate and recognized rights.

Ghulam Muhammad Safi, while appreciating the efforts of the Overseas Pakistan Foundation delegation to highlight the Kashmir issue abroad, said the overseas Pakistani and Kashmiri community has a heavy responsibility to moderate the international public opinion, expose human rights violations before the world and become an effective voice of the Kashmiri people.

On the occasion, Chairman of Overseas Pakistan Foundation Syed Qamar Raza assured the Hurriyat leadership that the Kashmir dispute would be highlighted in every forum abroad and no effort would be spared to highlight the struggle of the Kashmiri people.

He said that the overseas Pakistani community would fulfill its responsibilities at the diplomatic, social and public levels so that the voice of the Kashmiri people could reach the international community effectively.

At the end of the meeting, the Hurriyat leadership thanked the delegation and expressed its resolve to continue the political, diplomatic and legal struggle for a just, peaceful and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute.

The delegation of Overseas Pakistan Foundation included Chaudhry Faryad, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Muhammad Rafiq Chaudhry, Ehsanullah Aslam Mughal, Aleem Naqshbandi, Raja Mukhtiar, Rafaqat Ali, Syed Ahmed, Hamza Arshad and Shabbir Ahmed Qureshi, while the Hurriyat delegation included General Secretary Advocate Pervez Ahmed, Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal, Syed Manzoor Shah and Mushtaq Aslam.
