IIOJK: Mirwaiz calls for moral reform during Ramzan

Raises concern over declining social conduct

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed concern over the decline in social conduct, stating the blessed month of Ramzan provides a vital opportunity for moral reflection and self-reform.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing a gathering at Masjid Abu Bakr in Zoonimar, Srinagar, in connection with Ramzan, said that the holy month is not merely about abstaining from food and drink, but a time for moral transformation. True fasting, he said, requires purification of speech, discipline of thought, and refinement of behaviour.

He noted that when public discourse becomes filled with, ridicule, and hurtful language, it reflects a deeper moral crisis that must be addressed in light of Ramzan’s message.

The Mirwaiz also expressed particular concern over the misuse of social media, saying that platforms meant for communication and constructive engagement have increasingly become spaces of abuse and personal attacks. He emphasized that differences of opinion must not lead to disrespect, humiliation, or inhumane behavior.

He urged the community, particularly the youth, to uphold dignity, patience, and compassion in their interactions so that Ramzan becomes a means of moral reform and social harmony.
