RSS-linked violence targets Muslims in Murshidabad, tension prevails in West Bengal

Kolkata: Violence linked to RSS-backed elements during a Ram Navami procession in India’s West Bengal state left dozens injured and caused widespread damage to Muslim-owned properties in Murshidabad district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence erupted in Raghunathganj area after a Hindu religious procession turned aggressive, with participants raising provocative slogans targeting the Muslim community. The situation quickly escalated into attacks on shops, vehicles, and homes belonging to Muslims.
Eyewitnesses said a large mob went on a rampage, vandalising and setting fire to several Muslim-owned businesses, tearing down religious posters, and creating panic in the area. Local residents termed the attacks as targeted and pre-planned.
Despite the presence of police, the mob continued its actions, raising questions over the role of authorities in preventing the violence. Political and community leaders also expressed concern over the incident, calling for an impartial investigation.
While a number of people have been detained, including an RSS-linked individual, the focus remains on restoring normalcy amid heightened tensions.
Deployment of forces has been made in the area, and patrols are ongoing to prevent further escalation. However, fear and uncertainty continue to grip the affected population.
