Over 59,000 posts vacant in IIOJK, Omar Abdullah reveals in Assembly

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has informed the Legislative Assembly that over 59,000 posts are lying vacant across 38 government departments, triggering a debate about the administration’s ability to deliver public services.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the vacant posts include 48,958 non-gazetted and 10,217 gazetted positions, with 24,507 non-gazetted and 3,808 gazetted posts vacant under the direct recruitment quota, and 24,451 non-gazetted and 6,409 gazetted posts vacant under the promotion quota.

The districts with the highest number of vacancies are yet to be disclosed, but the CM stated that a total of 16,812 non-gazetted and 2,798 gazetted posts are vacant across all 20 districts.The opposition has criticized the government for failing to fill the vacancies, citing it as a major reason for the poor state of public services in the territory.

Meanwhile, the government has cleared bills amounting to Rs 12,561.31 crore under various heads, including gratuity, commutation, leave salary, and contractor payments, and settled GPF bills worth Rs 5,821.43 crore.
