Congress slams Modi’s diplomacy over Pakistan’s role in US-Iran ceasefire

New Delhi: The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic efforts, stating that Pakistan’s role in brokering a ceasefire between the US and Iran has dealt a severe blow to his “highly personalised diplomacy”.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh argued that the truce raises serious questions about India’s foreign policy stance, particularly given Modi’s silence on Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

Ramesh criticized Modi’s approach, saying it has eroded India’s global standing and undermined its long-standing policy of isolating Pakistan. He also questioned the government’s handling of “Op Sindoor”, saying that its abrupt halt in May 2025 was never adequately explained.

The Congress party’s criticism comes as Pakistan’s role in facilitating the ceasefire has been acknowledged by both the US and Iran, with talks set to begin in Islamabad. The truce’s fragile nature is underscored by reports of continued strikes across the region.
