Farooq Rehmani condemns killing of Muslim youth by vigilantes in Ramban

Islamabad: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu & Kashmir (APHC-AJK) leader, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has strongly condemned the murder of a Muslim youth by cow vigilantes in Ramban district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, demanding accountability from the authorities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Islamabad, Rehmani held the BJP-led Indian government and the IIOJK administration responsible for the fate of Tanveer Ahmad Chopan. Chopan was intercepted by a gang of vigilantes while transporting his livestock, chased, assaulted, and lynched.
“The lynching of Muslim youth by vigilante gangs has become a recurring feature across India under the current regime. This latest tragedy in Ramban is merely the tip of the iceberg, part of a cycle of violence where culprits often escape the reach of the law,” Rehmani stated.
He said the incident on an important highway reflects a deteriorating security situation and asserted that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A has emboldened extremist groups to extend their operations into the territory.
Rehmani said the incidents are part of a broader, systemic effort to alter the demographic character of the territory and marginalize the Muslim population.
He argued that the current political climate fosters an atmosphere where minorities are openly threatened, undermining the heterogeneous fabric of society and violating international human rights standards, including the United Nations Charter and bilateral agreements on minority protections.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Young Men’s League in a statement also condemned the killing of Chohan and the ongoing raids by Indian forces and agencies on the residences of party leaders and workers in the territory.
