NC leader Ramzan seeks release of jailed Engineer Rashid to visit ailing father in IIOJK

Srinagar: In Indian illegally Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), National Conference leader and Member of Indian Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, has urged the BJP-led Indian government to release incarcerated Kashmiri Lok Sabha member from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, on humanitarian grounds, citing the critical health condition of his father.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement, Ramzan said Engineer Rashid’s father is currently admitted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar and is undergoing treatment in a critical condition. He appealed to New Delhi to act with urgency and compassion, allowing Rashid to be with his ailing father during this difficult time.
Calling it a humanitarian issue, the National Conference (NC) leader emphasized that the presence of a son beside his critically ill father is a basic human necessity. He noted that there are established precedents where detainees and undertrial prisoners have been granted interim bail or custody parole in exceptional family circumstances, including serious medical emergencies and important family functions. He stressed that similar consideration should be extended in Rashid’s case.
Ramzan maintained that granting temporary release to Rashid would be fully in line with established legal practices and principles of justice. He urged the Indian government to respond sensitively and facilitate Engineer Rashid’s release so he can remain by his father’s side during the ongoing medical emergency.
Earlier, several Kashmiri leaders and politicians, including senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, had also called for Engineer Rashid’s temporary release on humanitarian grounds. However, the continued denial of such basic relief on the part of Indian government highlights a broader pattern of New Delhi’s rigid and uncompromising approach towards Kashmiris. Such actions reinforce concerns that even humanitarian considerations are routinely sidelined when it comes to Kashmir, exposing the harsh reality faced by its people irrespective of their position.
