Tribal students protest in Nagpur as sense of deprivation deepens

Nagpur : In India, over 500 tribal students staged a protest outside the Tribal Development Directorate in Nagpur in central India state of Maharashtra, highlighting a deep sense of deprivation over delayed scholarships, unpaid allowances and poor living conditions in government hostels.

According to Kashmir Media Service, students from 14 hostels said delays in Direct Benefit Transfer payments and lack of basic facilities like drinking water, sanitation and study material were making it difficult for youth from poor families to continue education.

Protesters said they were not asking for luxury but for dignity and equal opportunities. They warned of a larger agitation if their demands were not addressed in the 25 May meeting with the department. KMS-10K
