Congress says New Delhi denying IIOJK statehood, people face ‘dual control’

Jammu : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra said India has failed to restore statehood to territory stating that people were suffering under a “dual control system” after the Assembly elections.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a workers’ convention in Jammu, Karra said people were caught between two power centres, which he called a negation of their mandate. He said that districts in the Jammu region had been adversely affected since the abrogation of special status and downgrading of the erstwhile state into a Union Territory, claiming local youth were deprived of jobs and resources were being exploited.

Karra said the Congress was campaigning for statehood through “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq” and stressed strengthening booth-level party structures. Working president Raman Bhalla accused the BJP of pursuing politics of hate and said Jammu had become a hub of drug and liquor mafia activities.
