Major General among three officers injured in Indian Army helicopter crash in Ladakh

Srinagar: An Indian Army helicopter crashed in Leh district of Ladakh region in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leaving three army officers, including a Major General, injured

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Cheetah helicopter crashed in the Tangtse area near Leh during a routine sortie in the high-altitude region.

Three officers, including a Major General, sustained injuries in the crash.

A Lieutenant Colonel and a Major were piloting the single-engine helicopter, while the passenger onboard was Major General Sachin Mehta, General Officer Commanding of the 3 Infantry Division. A formal inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the crash.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the ageing fleet of Cheetah and Chetak helicopters used by the Indian armed forces, especially in high-altitude regions such as Ladakh and the Siachen glacier, despite repeated crashes and longstanding calls for their replacement.
