Ruhullah Mehdi raises alarm over selective state response after Budgam minor rape-murder

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference senior leader and Indian parliament member from Srinagar, Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has questioned the priorities and credibility of state institutions, saying Indian police act swiftly to suppress dissent in the territory but fail to show the same urgency in delivering justice to vulnerable victims, following the rape and murder of a minor girl in Budgam.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ruhullah Mehdi made the remarks while addressing reporters during his visit to the bereaved family in the Galwanpora area of Budgam.
Expressing deep concern over the growing incidents of violence against children, he demanded strict enforcement of law and speedy justice for the victim’s family.
“These incidents are on the rise. It is the duty and obligation of police, judiciary and government to enforce stringent laws and ensure severe punishment,” Ruhullah said.
“Questions are being raised on institutions that have failed to implement laws in letter and spirit,” he said.
He asked that while police are quick to suppress dissent and invoke stringent laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA), where does that will and power go in cases involving innocent and vulnerable victims.
Ruhullah expressed hope that the victim’s parents would receive justice and urged the authorites to solve the case on a fast-track basis and bring those responsible to justice without delay.
He said the horrific tragedy had intensified public anxiety over the safety of children and underscored the urgent need for accountability.
Ruhullah’s remarks came amid continuing outrage and protests across Kashmir, where the gruesome incident has triggered emotional scenes and widespread demands for swift and exemplary action.
