BJP engineering political splits to implement UCC, ‘one nation, one election,’ agendas: Ruhullah Mehdi

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference leader and member of Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian parliament, from Srinagar Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to weaken and divide opposition parties to pave the way for the implementation of major legislative initiatives such as “One nation, one election” and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).”
According to Kashmir Media Service, Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi addressing a public gathering at Awantipora in Pulwama district said, “By dividing the opposition parties, the BJP is trying to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament and pave the way for the implementation of major legislative initiatives.”
He also criticised political developments involving Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan, saying that leaders who were given political opportunities by opposition parties should remain committed to the platforms that supported them.
He said that Yusuf Pathan was brought from Gujarat to fight elections in Bengal and given mandate from where he could win easily so that he remains committed with the party and public but he failed to do so.
Ruhullah said that people in Jammu and Kashmir continue to face difficulties at multiple levels and expressed concern over what he described as the increasing presence of officials from outside the territory in key administrative and policing positions.
“People entrusted with power have failed to ease the hardships faced by the public. The concerns of the people remain unresolved, and there is growing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the administration,” he said.
The National Conference leader stressed that the struggle for the rights and interests of Jammu and Kashmir should continue through democratic and constitutional means. He urged people to remain united and actively participate in democratic processes to ensure that their voices are heard. He said that public is the best judge and they can say about the performance of the government in last two years.
