DFP commends efforts of PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim Munir for ending US-Iran tensions

Urges just, durable settlement of Kashmir dispute

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir the Democratic Freedom Party has welcomed the recent ceasefire and de-escalation efforts between the United States and Iran and appreciated all countries and leaders who played a constructive role in promoting peace, stability, and diplomacy in the region and beyond.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the DFP spokesperson in a statement in Srinagar particularly commended the efforts of Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for supporting initiatives aimed at ending tensions.

He said this positive development once again demonstrates that even the most complex disputes can be addressed through meaningful dialogue, diplomacy, and political wisdom rather than confrontation and the use of force. The same principle applies to South Asia’s oldest unresolved conflict—the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, he added.

He drew the attention of the international community to the fact that previous ceasefire arrangements and de-escalation measures between India and Pakistan have shown that there is always room for dialogue and peaceful engagement. However, lasting peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved unless the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, he maintained.

The DFP spokesperson said just as the international community has supported efforts to secure peace in the Middle East, it should also play a proactive role in promoting peace and stability in South Asia. The world must encourage India to engage in meaningful negotiations aimed at finding a just and durable settlement of the Kashmir dispute, thereby enabling the people of the region to enjoy the benefits of peace, development, and prosperity, he remarked.

He said South Asia remains one of the most sensitive regions in the world, with several nuclear powers located in close proximity. It said any escalation of tensions in such an environment poses risks not only to regional stability but also to international peace and security. Therefore, he said, the need of the hour is to prioritize the fight against poverty, unemployment, underdevelopment, and human suffering rather than allowing conflicts and rivalries to dominate regional affairs.

The DFP spokesperson, welcoming the ceasefire and peace efforts between the United States and Iran, expressed the hope that the international community will also include the people of Jammu and Kashmir in its broader peace agenda.

He urged the world powers and international institutions to play an effective role in facilitating a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute, thereby contributing to lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
