Kashmiri delegation protests outside UN HQs in Geneva, demands UN resolutions implementation on Kashmir

Geneva : A delegation of Kashmiri representatives staged a demonstration today outside the United Nations Office in Geneva, calling for an immediate end to human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and urging the United Nations to enforce its long-pending resolutions on Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speakers at the protest emphasized the Kashmiris’ inalienable right to self-determination and urged the UN Security Council to act on its resolutions without further delay. They also condemned what they described as the Indian government’s pursuit of a Hindu extremist agenda in Kashmir, including land grabs, interference in religious affairs, and demographic engineering aimed at altering the population composition of the territory.

The delegates also denounced the application of repressive laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), and Public Safety Act (PSA). They criticized the use of agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate to target civil society activists and political leaders.

The speakers characterized India’s “development” initiatives in the region as a settler-colonial project, arguing that heavy militarization and the militarization of pilgrimage routes are contributing to environmental degradation and climate-related risks in the ecologically fragile territory.

The protest concluded with renewed calls for international accountability and the realization of the Kashmiri people’s right to determine their own political future.
The protest was addressed by Altaf Hussain Wani, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, Advocate Parvez Ahmed Shah, Dr Raja Sajjad Lateef, Dr Waleed Rasool, Ambassador Brone, Noha Franch activist, Faheem Kayani, Zaffar Qurashi, Ms Pascal, Dr Saira Shah, Ijaz Ahmed and Ms Naila Altaf Kayani.

The Kashmiri delegation comprises representatives advocating the implementation of UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir and an end to reported human rights abuses in the territory.
