Calls for implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has paid rich tribute to Sheikh Abdul Aziz on the eve of his martyrdom anniversary, saying his sacrifice remains an indelible chapter in the Kashmiris’ struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination.
According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesperson Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued in Srinagar said Sheikh Abdul Aziz devoted his life to the Kashmir freedom struggle and was martyred on August 11, 2008, while leading a massive procession towards the Uri border area against the economic blockade imposed on the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He said Sheikh Abdul Aziz, along with DFP President Shabbir Ahmad Shah, was leading hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris in the peaceful march when Indian forces targeted the procession, resulting in Sheikh Abdul Aziz embracing martyrdom.
The DFP spokesperson said the historic procession reflected the collective resolve of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation, repression and economic strangulation. He said the massive participation demonstrated the popular character of the Kashmir freedom movement and the people’s steadfast commitment to their right to self-determination.
Advocate Arshad Iqbal said the life, struggle and sacrifice of Sheikh Abdul Aziz remained an unforgettable chapter in Kashmir’s history and continued to inspire the younger generation to remain steadfast in their peaceful political struggle for their fundamental rights.
He said the sacrifices of Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiri martyrs could neither be forgotten nor ignored, adding that remembering the martyrs was also a reaffirmation of the Kashmiri people’s determination to pursue their legitimate struggle for freedom, dignity and self-determination.
The DFP spokesperson urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take meaningful steps towards resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute and ensure that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are allowed to exercise their internationally recognized right to self-determination in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
