Glowing tributes paid to Professor Abdul Ghani Butt on his first death anniversary

Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP)) has paid glowing tributes to renowned Kashmiri freedom leader and former chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Professor Abdul Ghani Butt on his first death anniversary.

Professor Abdul Ghani Butt passed away on September 17 last year at his home in Botingo, Sopore, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The DFP in a statement issued in Srinagar said late Professor Abdul Ghani Butt was a seasoned, visionary and statesmanlike Kashmiri leader who devoted his life to the political struggle for the right to self-determination of the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. His political wisdom, intellectual depth and unwavering commitment to the Kashmir cause will always be remembered with respect and honour, it added.

The statement said as a prominent leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt made significant contributions towards articulating the Kashmir cause at political and diplomatic forums. It said Prof Butt consistently emphasised dialogue, political engagement and a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. His measured approach, political understanding and commitment to peaceful means earned him respect among his colleagues and political circles, it maintained.

The DFP said Professor Abdul Ghani Butt’s political and intellectual contributions constitute a valuable legacy of the Kashmir movement and his lifelong commitment, political insight and services to the cause of Kashmir will continue to serve as a source of inspiration and guidance for future generations.

The DFP expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family, colleagues and associates of the late Professor and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest him in eternal peace and grant patience and strength to his family and loved ones.
