Delhi police drag Muslim woman from house to police station

New Delhi: Policemen barged into the house of a Muslim woman at night in the Indian capital, New Delhi, and dragged her to the police station.

The policemen, entered the house of the woman named Reshman around 3 am and dragged her to Chandni Mahal police station in the city for identification in a case involving the beating of two persons. Plice officials even did not allow Reshma to wear wear burqa. She said to be the sister of an accused, whose house was raided by the police.

Meanwhile, Reshmaan complained to the Delhi High Court about the brutal behavior of the police and requested the court to direct the police to refrain from such aggressive behavior. However, the High Court rejected the woman’s plea and refused to interfere in the matter. In her petition, Reshma said that the police should be aware of women’s rights and should also take into account one’s religious beliefs.
