CAA direct affront to humanity, won’t implement it in state: Kerala CM
Kerala: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan delivered a scathing rebuke to the Modi-led Indian government’s move to enforce the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting that Kerala would not comply with its implementation.
According to Kashmri Media Service, Vijayan denounced the BJP government’s decision to enforce the CAA, labeling it as a deliberate attempt to sow division among people, stoke communal sentiments, and undermine the fundamental principles of the Constitution. He firmly declared that the Kerala government would not entertain the implementation of the law within the state’s boundaries.
In response to the New Delhi’s notification of the CAA rules, Vijayan warned that the move would destabilize the nation and called for a unified opposition against the stratification of Indian citizens based on religion.
Describing the move as part of the Hindutva communal agenda, Vijayan emphasized the unconstitutional nature of granting citizenship selectively to non-Muslim migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. He criticized the law’s discriminatory provisions, framing Indian citizenship in terms of religion, and termed it a direct affront to humanity, Indian traditions, and its people.
Vijayan highlighted Kerala’s proactive stance against the CAA, citing the state assembly’s resolution opposing the law, the government’s refusal to implement the National Population Register (NPR), and its legal challenge to the constitutionality of the CAA in the Supreme Court.
