Kejriwal says his arrest is assault on opposition, democracy, federalism and fair elections
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asserted that his arrest in the Delhi Excise policy case represents an attack on the Opposition, democracy, federalism, and fair elections.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Arvind Kejriwal is set to present his case against the arrest to a Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on April 29.
Kejriwal’s rejoinder to the Enforcement Directorate’s counter-affidavit accuses the BJP-ruled Indian government of wielding the agency to suppress electoral competition. His party Aam Aadmi Party maintains that Kejriwal’s arrest on March 21 aimed to hinder his campaign during the general election, emphasizing the absence of incriminating evidence or financial links.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that his governance has led to widespread adversity instead of progress, contrary to his pledges of inclusive development.
Kharge highlighted unfulfilled promises such as job creation, repatriation of black money, and agricultural and housing initiatives. He underscored the Congress’s commitment to safeguarding India’s Constitution and democracy, addressing economic challenges, and empathizing with disgruntled farmers. Additionally, Kharge deferred the announcement of Congress candidates for parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh, urging patience for a few more days.
