Islamabad: India is expanding its grip on occupied Jammu and Kashmir through the confiscation of land and property belonging to Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, reports indicate that authorities in Baramulla district have taken possession of properties belonging to seven individuals. This incident is believed to be part of a broader pattern where the Indian government is targeting and seizing Kashmiri properties, particularly those associated with pro-freedom activists and organizations.
Critics argue that these measures are intended to intimidate and punish Kashmiris for their aspirations for self-determination, ultimately aiming to crush their resolve. They highlight that properties valued at millions of rupees have already been confiscated, and instances of Indian forces demolishing Kashmiri homes during military operations have been documented.
Human rights organizations caution that these seizures and demolitions form part of a systematic strategy of settler colonialism, with the goal of displacing Kashmiri residents and undermining their territorial claims. They contend that such tactics will only serve to exacerbate tensions and further marginalize the Kashmiri population.
