Indian troops kill 10 Maoists in Chhattisgarh
New Delhi: Indian forces’ personnel have killed 10 Maoists in a fresh crackdown on pro-freedom fighters in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. Indian forces opened fire on a group of Maoists, killing all of them on the spot.
This is the second major operation against Maoists in Chhattisgarh since the past month. In mid-April, Indian forces killed 29 Maoists in a similar operation.
The Maoists have been fighting for their independence for several decades. They say they are fighting for poor farmers and landless laborers to gain control of their lands and get royalties from minerals.
The Indian government has labeled the Maoist insurgency as the country’s most serious internal security threat. The Maoists have been active in several parts of India, but their main stronghold is in the central and eastern states.
