NC opposes formation of district-level committees for hotel projects in IIOJK
Srinagar: The National Conference (NC) has expressed strong objections to the formation of district-level committees for identifying land to establish five-star hotels in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the party’s spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar, in a statement in Srinagar raised concerns about the motives behind this decision, citing the absence of a popularly elected government.
Dar emphasized that the NC will review all decisions taken after August 5, 2019, if elected to office later this year. It is of note that the Indian Supreme Court has given a deadline for holding so-called assembly elections in IIOJK till September, this year, and the NC spokesperson is referring to this cut-off date.
Dar cautioned private companies and individuals against participating in these proposals, advising them to wait until a popular government is in place.
He maintained his party prioritizes ecological considerations and the interests of the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and any decisions contradicting these principles will be reevaluated by a future elected government.
Notably, the IIOJK administration on Thursday accorded sanction to the constitution of district-level committees that will identify suitable lands for the establishment of 5-star hotels in the territory. As per the order, this may include forest land and private land.
