Protest in Srinagar GMC over blasphemous display picture by non-local student

Srinagar: Students and doctors of Govt Medical College, Srinagar, held a protest against a non-local medical student, who put a blasphemous display picture on a messaging app.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a spokesperson of Resident Doctors Association, GMC, Srinagar, said that they had given three hours to the non-local student to remove the offending display picture but the latter refused to do it following which students in anger protested against him.

The protesting students demanded strict action against the non-local student for the immoral act, which they said had hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

Meanwhile, the Resident Doctors Association of GMC, Srinagar, strongly condemned the deplorable act of blasphemy perpetrated by an undergraduate medical student of the medical institution.

“Such an egregious transgression not only grievously wounds the religious sensibilities of many but also imperils the very fabric of societal harmony and mutual respect, which we hold dear,” the RDA said in a statement.

Protests broke out at the Govt Medical College, Srinagar, over a post by a non-local medical student against the Prophet of Islam, officials said.

Dozens of students and several junior doctors held a protest against the medical student, demanding action against the student for hurting the sentiments of the Muslims.

Meanwhile, Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi Al Safvi, President, Anjuman Sharie Shian, has strongly condemned blasphemous remarks made against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) terming them as a deliberate attempt to dehumanize Muslims. In a press release, he called for stricter laws to penalize those making disparaging comments and appealed for communal harmony and peace, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious sentiments and fostering coexistence.

IIOJK’s Grand Mufti, Nasir Ul Islam, has urged the administration to take swift and severe action against the outsider who made blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on social media. The Mufti emphasized that such offenses are unacceptable in any civilized society and appealed for respect and tolerance towards religious figures, condemning the defamatory act as a threat to the peaceful atmosphere in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Tehreek Ittehad Islami Jammu and Kashmir General Secretary and Maulana Mufti Mudassar Ahmad Qadri strongly condemned the blasphemous act, calling it “unacceptable” and “arrogant”. He emphasized that the honor and respect of the Prophet [PBUH] cannot be compromised and demanded action against the perpetrator.

NC leader and Indian parliament member Ruhullah Mehdi in a statement said this has become a habit of some students in different institutions of Srinagar to post objectionable contents about Prophet (SAW).

He said the recent offence from a student in GMC, Srinagar, is a fresh example. These repeated offences cannot be tolerated in any civilised society and the Srinagar administration should take immediate action and book this offender immediately under law.

APHC leader Farida Behanji also condemned the sacrilegious act.
