Delhi HC suspends Kejriwal’s bail in excise policy scam case

Trial court says ED acting against Delhi CM with bias

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today suspended a lower court’s decision to grant bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with an alleged Delhi excise policy scam case.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the move comes in response to an appeal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which claimed it had been denied the opportunity to fully present its case against Kejriwal. The ED moved the Delhi HC on Friday, less than 24 hours after the Delhi lower court granted bail to Kejriwal.

The Delhi CM was granted regular bail by the lower court on Thursday, nearly three months after he was arrested in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy case.

The ED, operating under the BJP-led Indian government, alleged procedural irregularities and asserted insufficient opportunity to argue its position. Earlier, the trial court criticized the ED for biased actions and lack of substantial evidence linking Kejriwal to the alleged crime proceeds. The court also noted the ED’s failure to respond adequately to issues raised by Kejriwal during the proceedings.

The case has raised concerns about political bias and the use of investigative agencies for political purposes. As the legal battle continues, stakeholders await further developments in this high-profile case, which could have broader implications for political accountability and judicial independence in India.
